There are 2 versions of beads used. There is the bigger/ rougher beads which actually makes beautiful kasut manik. However, for those familiar with kasut manik, they usually go for the more expensive kasut manik which comes with fine (halus) beads. And when put side by side, the difference of the 2 shoes are striking.

Like most Nyonya fashion, beaded shoes are hand-made, hence the somewhat more expensive pricing. The fine kasut manik of course takes much more time to make, and hence are much pricier.

Today, these shoes can be bought from Jonker’s Street & Heeren Street in Melaka and also some Peranakan shops in Singapore.
